Job description

Mission Provides innovative design creation within Product Design at a intermediate level. Under the direction of the Senior Designer or management, works within the cross-functional category team to create a line from concept to reality. Responsibilities - Product Design - Utilizes design skills to create original, innovative designs that appropriately reflect NIKE’s design philosophy and standards, with direction given from design management.
- Communication - Communicates and presents design concepts. Produces presentation materials in conjunction with the Design and Category Teams that effectively communicate the concept behind the line for internal and external audiences.
- Process and Timeline - Works with design leadership and category team members in Design, Development and Merchandising to ensure feasibility of designs, meeting price point, merchandising needs and product creation timelines.
- Prototype Creation - Provides prototype sampling information including fabrication, trim, color, graphic applications, style, detail, fit requirements, construction detail, etc. Monitors the development of prototype samples and interacts with Development, Pattern Making, Materials, Apparel Lab, Field Testing and the Sample Room to exchange ideas and ensure timely completion of each project.
- Skill/Knowledge Development - Builds awareness of current trends, color, technology and sports related products through market research and travel to keep abreast of consumer needs as well as future design direction. Works with design management and/or Senior Designer to actively gain experience, enhance design skills and increase knowledge of NIKE’s design philosophy, products and processes.
- Designer Support - Provides design support for higher level Designers as needed.
Requirements Education: 4-year Degree in BA, BFA, or BS in Design. Minimum 3 years experience in product design. Apparel design education or experience preferred. Technical: Proficient ability to apply and perform design skills including drawing/sketching, ideation, color theory, use of texture, spacing and scale, visual presentation development and layout that is supported by a portfolio of non-computer based creative art. Strong familiarity with current trends, color and design. Clear understanding of pattern making, draping, materials, trims, garment fit/construction and manufacturing. Clear understanding of the apparel industry, marketing principles, and development process. Communication/Language: Effective verbal and written communication skills in local market language, including presentations. Ability to clearly articulate policies and instructions. Proficient information seeking skills and drive for results. Ability to share ideas and develop effective responses or elevate to higher management. Ability to work cooperatively with staff. Ability to network and utilize internal and external resources. Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism. Other: Good attention to details and deadlines. General ability to exercise good judgment in setting priorities and follow-through. General ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and team environment. Ability to work in a rapidly changing, high growth environment. Ability to manage multiple and competing work priorities, demands and changes. Travels both domestically and internationally.
